Now, there has been a buzz surrounding the film Inception and I assure you that it is well earned. This film steps into an alternate world where the subconscious mind is at the forefront, where possibilities are endless and your dreams reflect reality in such depth that you find yourself questioning, whether in fact you are actually dreaming. Director Christopher Nolan is able to reflect authenticity when shooting this dream sequence due to the amount of detail and time he spent researching every aspect of dreams. He is able to keep you engaged in the film with twists and turns within the plot while seeing a character develop through the course of the film due to circumstance. Yet your questions are always answered.
This film contains a dream cast of actors who all deliver with the characters they were assigned, Leonardo Di Caprio leads the cast, with other favourites Joseph Gordon- Levitt, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Michael Caine and so many more. Lighting was Nolan’s firm friend in this inspiring film using light and shadow to highlight characters in short monologues to close ups to show a characters reaction or realisation. Blues and greys are used as a tint on the background in dream like states whilst warmer hues such as yellow and red can been seen in scenes where the characters are firmly focused on their conscious thoughts. The plot was full, rich and never made you feel it was lacking anything, you weren’t thinking I wonder what would happen if this changed? Or if this character did this? This is more proof that as well as being visually captivating the piece also had a plot that literally left no stone unturned.
I literally respect every aspect of this film, from choice of camera angles, to costume, to the dialogue used. Instead of giving you the typical review, I’m going to instead recommend very strongly that you watch this film. Never have I watched a film that was able to portray life with such certainty and precision as this film. Like life there’s no particular genre you can place on this film you experience all emotions at once. I give this film a 10/10 as it’s literally the most insightful, inspirational, film I’ve ever seen. But don’t just take my word for it!
