Cornwall’s Coolest...

Cornwalls Coolest is the ultimate guide when living in or visiting the Duchy of Cornwall. Ten months of development was officially unfolded this summer with the launch of Cornwall's first dedicated social networking and lifestyle website.

Running off its name, its aim is to recommend both tourists and locals alike of the 'coolest' events, clubs, accommodation, places to eat, beaches, fashion, attractions, arts, beaches, sports and leisure... As well as being a hub for advice on issues that are relevant in today's society such as education, health and sexual awareness, your carbon footprint and recycling.

So if you want to find out about gigs, check the surf, view the length of the queues around the biomes at The Eden Project or maybe you just consider yourself one of Cornwall’s coolest! Setup a profile now on www.cornwallscoolest.com.

It creates an online community for everybody who lives in and/or visits Cornwall. Unlike travel brochures and reference books about the county, www.cornwallscoolest.com gives you a first hand insight on everyday life and is updated on a daily basis by a dedicated team of people who live, work, party and play there.

Chew it up with Simon Relph

Chew It Up with Simon Relph

Last week, lucky members of the Chew TV Content Crew and Cornwall College were able to ask one of the UK’s great film producers; Simon Relph, about his long and successful career in the media industry during Chew TV’s ‘Chew It Up’ show.

Relph’s credits include the successful; ‘Blue Juice’, ‘Land Girls’, ‘Comrades’ and ‘Privates on Parade’ along with a host of other great British films. As well as meeting Simon Relph, Content Crew members and students were able to get a taste of the media industry for themselves by directing, presenting & filming live in a professional TV studio for the ‘Chew It Up’ show.

“It was one of the hardest things I have had to do but easily the most rewarding. Thank you to everyone involved for giving me this great opportunity!” – Zoe, Director

For those of you that haven’t heard of Simon Relph; here are three things you need to know:

1.   He has been awarded a C.B.E (Commander of the British Empire)

2.   He has served as Chairman of the British Academy of Film & Television Arts of which he is now a Trustee.

3.   He is on the British Screen Advisory Council, the Executive Council of Pact, and the Council of Royal College of Art and as a Governor of the British Film Institute

So basically he is kind of a big deal and you can see his full ‘Chew It Up’ Interview here.

RIGHTS BYTES CHANNEL – LIVE ON CHEW TV!

Chew TV is celebrating the 18th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) by launching its very own channel on Chew TV; Rights Bytes.

Over 200 Cornish young people have worked with new media practitioners, filmmakers, writers, dancers, poets and creative individuals, exploring what CRC really means for young people on a day-to-day basis and the result of this exciting collaboration is a fascinating set of digital tales that can be seen on the Rights Bytes channel; www.chewtv.com/rightsbytes.

You can also make and submit your own Rights Bytes film to the channel by following these simple guidelines:

1.      Think about your rights, in your life, where you live.

2.      Choose an article from the Convention on the Rights of the Child.          You can find out   more about the Convention at                www.unicef.org.uk/youthvoice/crc.asp

3.         Think about how you can use film, music, story, poetry, animation, any form of digital media to communicate with other children, young people (and the adults who areresponsible for protecting your rights) across the world.

4.      Make a film no more than 3 minutes long – you can do this by yourself, with friends, at school, with help from filmmakers and artists, family or youth-workers, using a mobile phone, video camera, computer, whatever you have available.

5.      Register on Chew TV and follow the simple online submission guidelines.

What are you waiting for?

… Get involved!

The regions brightest bands will be going on tour around the South West and in every city the tour stops off at, a young filmmaker is needed to come along to the gig and film not only the performances themselves but also interviews with the people involved with the tour. After the tour is completed, all the filmmakers will be brought together to edit the final film.

Whilst the work is unpaid, expenses will be paid and the experience is priceless!

Hollaboxx Channel LAUNCHED!

So you think there’s nothing to do around here? The new Hollaboxx channel should be able to sort that out…

There are loads of things to do down here in Kernow but we agree it’s sometimes hard to find out what’s going on where and when on a roasting August evening or a soggy, cold December day, so that’s where we come in…

Chew TV has teamed up with Cornwall Council to provide an online directory in the form of the new Chew TV channel, Hollaboxx. The channel will show you what there is to do around Cornwall and to get it rolling we need videos of what you get up to in your area so that other folks will be inspired to take part and also get their own stuff up on the channel.

Seeing as Chew TV is run by young people for young people the whole channel has been designed by young people working with professional designers and top PR gurus. We think it looks pretty slick; take a look!
