Online Child Protection
The main key to protecting children online is to give them as much education and guidance about using social networking sites as possible. Regular moderation of the site allows children to have the freedom to make decisions about what they do with the Internet but allows anything unsuitable to be removed/reported as soon as possible.
Chew TV will have links to external websites with guidance and information aimed at young people using the Internet as well as guidance for parents who want more information.
Thinkuknow: http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk
Connect safely:http://www.connectsafely.org
Both of these websites have comprehensive advise for young people and adults including news that is updated regularly.
Our team currently monitors everything that is added to Chew TV. This allows us to check that all information is safe and suitable for the site.
General guidelines for young people adding information to the site
- Remember that Chew TV is a public space and can be accessed by anyone - don't post anything, however harmless, that you wouldn't want the rest of the world to see
- Bullying or inappropriate speech will not be tolerated - it isn't nice in the 'real word' so don't do it online. It may lead to your profile being suspended
- Don't try to mislead people into believing you aren't who you say you are - all messages, comments and uploads are monitored so you will get found out!
- Think before you post - will this embarrass you or a friend later? Will it give away more information than your profile does - e.g. are you wearing your school uniform or stood by a road sign that could tell people where you are?
These guidelines will be added to and amended as the site develops and grows to accommodate any new features and possible risks that young people may be open to.
